Cheongju University Wins the World's Top Three Design Awards for 16 Consecutive Years

Cheongju University recorded the history of winning the world's top three design awards for 16 consecutive years by winning three awards at the 'Red Dot Design Award' and 'IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards)', world-renowned international design awards. It was announced on the August 22nd that it was done.

The 'Red Dot Design Award', which is widely known not only in the design world but also to the general public, has been organized by the Design Center Nordheim-Westphalia, Germany since 1955, and 'IDEA' is organized by IDSA (Industrial Designers Society of America), a national association of industrial designers. It is a design award that is recognized as one of the world's top three design awards along with Germany's if Design Award.

The main prize of the Red Dot Design Award is 'Allition', designed by Soo-min Kang, a student in the Department of Industrial Design. It is a crocodile-shaped outdoor cooking utensil that combines an infrared heater and induction that can be used at outdoor camping sites, and can reduce smoke generated during cooking. It received favorable reviews for being able to be folded and stored.

The IDEA Design Award's main prize is 'Vacuum Cattower', designed by student Lee Jun-su, which is a product that combines a vacuum cleaner and a cat tower for single-person households raising cats, and Jeon Eun-woo's 'Blossom', designed to prevent breast-related diseases and respond early. It is a healthcare product for personal ultrasound examination for women.

Advisor Cho Seong-bae said, “The fact that Cheongju University’s Department of Industrial Design has produced three winners of two of the world’s top three design awards for 16 consecutive years is a result of the department’s educational philosophy, showing that its excellent faculty and specialized curriculum are world-class. “This is a proving result,” he said.

Kim Yoon-bae, President of Cheongju University, said, “The Department of Industrial Design is a specialized department representing our university and is receiving international recognition by achieving excellent results every year.”, He also promised, “The school will not spare any support so that the Department of Industrial Design can become the best design prestigious school representing not only the school but also our country.”

Meanwhile, the Department of Industrial Design at Cheongju University has been selected for the ‘New Technology Convergence Design Innovative Talent Training Project’ hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Education and organized by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion. In addition, we are operating an ‘IP-R&D-based convergence mobility design project to create regional value’ with government funding of 906 million won over two years.
