Cheongju University Obtains Highest Grade in Architecture Education Certification

Cheongju University received the highest rating for its architectural education program from the Korea Accreditation Board for Architectural Education (KAAB) three consecutive times. Cheongju University announced on the August 9th that it obtained the highest grade, ‘6-year certification,’ after conducting an architectural education certification inspection last April, and will maintain this certification until July 2029.

In particular, with the highest level certification for the architecture education program for the third consecutive time, Cheongju University is expected to produce creative talents of an international level.

The Architectural Education Accreditation System is a system introduced by the International Union of Architects (UIA) to achieve international mutual recognition of architectural education.

Only graduates from universities that have received architectural education accreditation in accordance with the recently revised Architect Act can take the architect qualification exam. With this third consecutive certification, Cheongju University Department of Architecture graduates will have the privilege of being able to take the architect qualification exam.

Architectural education accreditation is a member of the Canberra Accord accreditation body and the UNESCO-UIA (UNESCO-UIA) Accreditation Body for Architectural Education (UVCAE), and is the only accreditation body for professional degree programs in architectural education in Korea, (KAAB) is conducting this.

This certification review was finalized after deliberation by the Architectural Education Accreditation Institute based on the annual report, self-assessment report, and on-site inspection results. The Department of Architecture at Cheongju University educates students to have the ability to envision creative architectural forms and spaces from an architectural perspective based on an understanding of history and society as well as the design and technical skills to realize them. It is said to have received high praise in terms of nurturing leading architectural experts of the times.

In addition, the program's excellence was confirmed in various items such as regional design studios, high employment rate, and active student activities.

Lee Ji-young, the head of the Department of Architecture at Cheongju University, said that he will continue to strive to create leading architectural education and culture in the region and to foster international-level architectural talent with practical skills.

Cheongju University's Department of Architecture obtained the highest grade of architectural education accreditation, '5-year accreditation' in 2012, and then acquired '6-year accreditation' in 2017 and '6-year accreditation' in 2023, receiving the highest grade in architecture education accreditation three times in a row.
