Cheongju University, the Department of Construction Engineering postgraduates were awarded in 16th Architectural Institute of Korea’s graduation thesis exhibition. Architectural Institute of Korea was established for study of architecture and technical research of architecture.
Architectural Institute of Korea’s graduation thesis exhibition awards the thesis which contributed study’s originality and academic development which was published in a bachelor’s degree or the master’s course.
Park Byung-joo was awarded Grand prize for a thesis about A Study on the Possibility of the Evaluation of Aggregate Soil by Using Hydrometer Method. This thesis suggested that answer the problem which is caused by distributed aggregate’s quality is getting worse. Also, this thesis suggested that methods for quick evaluation of soil directly related to the quality of aggregate.
Hydrometer Method is a method which uses Hydrometer. This is an instrument that measures the density, concentration, and weight of a liquid from the sunken volume by floating the pendulum on the liquid. In the hydrometer, the pendulum is placed in the floor, the upper part in the scale paper.
The force that rises against gravity by the working pressure of the part in the liquid is equal to the mass of the object, and the volume of the hydrometer depends on the density of the liquid, so it can be graded on the density, etc. of the object. Volume of the hydrometer can be changed by the temperature. So, It can be measured correctly on the standard temperature.
Han Joon Hee received an excellence award for thesis about Properties of Concrete with Coal Gasification Melting Slag as Mixed Fine Aggregate in a Master’s degree area.
This thesis received a good grade because it suggested a plan to secure insufficient aggregate resources by utilizing by-products generated from coal gasification complex power generation as aggregate for concrete and recycle by-products generated from power plants at the same time.
Molten slag is a residue which is produced when metal is refined or melted. Aggregate is a gravel or sand which is used on the construction work. Fine aggregate is a type of aggregate especially accord with the standard 5mm.
Han Soo Hwan received a participation prize for thesis about an Analysis of the Possibility of Normal Strength Development through the Application of Alkali Activator of Poor Mortar with Large Replacement of Blast Furnace Slag.
This thesis suggested a solution that which is caused by adding a slag too much in the concrete that triggered strength decrease of concrete. Blast-furnace slag is a slag that generated when making a pig iron.
